Your Step By Step Process

1. Semen analysis

Your process begins with a sperm collection so that we can analyse its quality. This is done by masturbation in the total privacy of a room designated exclusively for this purpose. To carry out this analysis, you must abstain from sex for two to five days.

After this initial assessment, we will let you know if you can continue your donation process.

Unfortunately, not all donor candidates fulfil the necessary criteria, although this does not mean that they have a fertility problem.

2. Counselling appointment

On your next visit to AVA Clinic you will have a counselling appointment with our psychologist, where the process of sperm donation will be explained to you in detail. The purpose of this appointment is the understanding of all the aspects related to sperm donation in order to be able to give informed consent. It will cover aspects related to motivation and the social, ethical and legal implications associated with sperm donation. General information about the donation process is also provided.

No psychotechnical tests are carried out and our donors are not selected based on personality traits.

3. Medical consultation, tests and exams

The donation process continues with one of our doctors. In order to determine whether you are healthy, your medical history will be analysed and various blood tests will also be requested, in particular to confirm the absence of hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV, HTLV and syphilis.

During the process, we will also screen you for known genetic and hereditary diseases. Tests will also be requested to detect any transmissible chromosome disorders.

If all is well with your tests and exams, you will be placed on our donor list and you can begin your sperm donations so that they can be cryopreserved.

4. Sperm donations

Depending on your availability, we will ask you to schedule regular visits to our clinic to provide sperm samples. These will be examined by our lab and only the samples that meet the necessary quality standards will be cryopreserved.

We will ask you to schedule around six to ten sperm donations. Prior to each of these donations you will be asked to have a period of sexual abstinence of two to five days.

5. Post-donation tests

Six months after your last sperm donations, you will be asked to visit us one last time at AVA Clinic so that we can repeat some blood tests. After your tests have been assessed we will finally be able to use your cryopreserved sperm samples now that their quarantine period is over (as required by law). Only then will we be able to use them to the benefit of the people who need your help to have a child.

On the day of the sperm donations, you will receive part of the compensation (Ministry of Health Ordinance 5015/2011) for costs, travel expenses and time spent during the process. You will receive the remainder on the day of the final tests.

Your sperm donation process ends here. The AVA Clinic team and certainly all the people you are helping will be eternally grateful for your donation. Thank you!
